In Tristram Stuarts talk "The Global Food Waste Scandal" Stuart talks about the value of food and resources and how they shouldn't be taken for granted.
When Stuart was a young boy he never wasted food. He always found a use for everything he had and would never waste it. For example Stuart said that when local markets, his school, and bakeries would throw away there extra food Stuart would ask to take it and and then would use it to feed his pigs and even sell them to people so not only was he not wasting it he made it beneficial for himself. Stuart talks about how people around the world are wasting tons of food and that it shouldn't have to be that way. He goes on about saying that a country should only take in as much food resources as it needs not an over abundance, although most of that food is being consumed much of it is being wasted. A country like the United States has 4 times more food in markets, restaurants, fast food indusries, etc then what they actually need to feed everyone in this country, and whatever amount of food is not consumed or used it is compiled up and sent off to land fill site. Tristram Stuart doesn't like the fact that some countries could waste food while there are countries out there in the world that are starving without it. He goes on about saying that every time we throw away extra food it's like throwing away a starving persons food because that food could've been donated to those struggling countries instead of putting it to waste.
I liked this talk a lot because it made me not want to take the things I have for granted. People in this world are starving and not knowing if they will ever be fed or given food, where as someone like me can just walk to the nearest food market and get myself something to eat. This talk made me think about how we need to stop wasting food and appreciate every bit we have of it because having food in the first place is a blessing considering that there are people who don't even eat because there country is not as rich in resources. I like watching videos that will actually make me think after I'm done watching it and this video definitely did because of how true and relevant it is to something that is a really big problem. From this video I learned that not only are we wasting food but because we get an overabundance it hurts the environment, we are collecting to much water at a very fast rate. we are cutting too many trees, were killing way more animals then what is needed for us to eat and if we keep on this course there will not be any food for us to waste anymore because there will be no more food.
This talk is a great topic to listen to and you should take the time to watch it because it is something that I believe will make you not take food for granted and is so far one of my favorite Ted talks.
